Alternate Tunings

ChordMate lets you change the tuning of your guitar from the default EADGBE. Click on the Guitar button to open the Guitar Properties window. Then click on the button next to the tuning.

You can select a tuning from the list of saved tunings. Simply select the tuning, such as "Open C" and click OK. You can create your own custom tuning by clicking on the "Add" button.

You can use any string to name the tuning. To enter the actual tuning description, type the open notes on each string, separated by commas. For example, the standard EADGBE tuning used on most guitars would be represented as "E3, A3, D4, G4, B4, E5". You need to enter both the note name, as well as the octave. In the description above, the low note is E in the 3rd octave.

You can create modified tunings by first selecting an alternate tuning from the list, and then clicking "Add". ChordMate will populate the tuning name and description field, and let you make the appropriate changes.

You can test the sound of any tuning by pressing "Play".
