ChordMate has a built-in tool for searching and exploring different chord shapes. Its primary use is to help you find a particular chord shape and do a quick search using the root note from the previous search. To open it, click on the Chord Types button in the toolbar at the top of the main window.
You can browse through the table or search by name, symbol, or formula. By default, the search is done using the chord shape name. You can select a different option from the drop-down menu:
The table is automatically updated to contain only the chord shapes that match what you type.
Once you find the chord shape that you are looking for, select it and then click on "Insert and Find". ChordMate will show all chord voicings with the selected chord shape and the root note from the previous search.
You can also use the Chord Types window as a quick reference during composition. In particular, it may be very useful for finding chord shapes that contain a specific scale degree (assuming that the root note is degree 1) or chord shapes that share the same general structure (for example all minor shapes).
