Playing Chords

Click on a diagram to hear the chord! ChordMate gives you three different options for playing the chord, which you select by right-clicking on a diagram. ChordMate will always default to the last played style.

You can choose from the following options:

  • Play Chord: plays all the notes together.
  • Play Quick Arpeggio: plays notes in quick succession.
  • Play Arpeggio: slowly plays notes in succession.

You can also choose which instrument ChordMate will use to play the chord. Click on the Guitar button to open the Guitar Properties window, then press the button next to Sound. ChordMate supports eight different guitars, and dozens of other instruments.

Troubleshooting

What should you do if you cannot hear the chord?

  1. Make sure that the ChordMate volume slider (located at the top left of the main window) is high.
  2. Check that the volume on your computer is not set to mute and your speakers are turned on.
  3. You might have to specifically turn on MIDI sounds. This is done through the volume control.

If you have difficulty distinguishing the sound/quality of different chords, you may want to plug in external speakers, or a set of good headphones.
